Certificate Course

The Certificate Course offers a basic introduction to Psychodrama theory and action methods. It can be credited towards the full Diploma Course in Psychodrama Psychotherapy, which leads to a professional accredited qualification.

This training is available in both London and Greece.

For whom:

This certificate course is aimed at those considering full professional training as Psychodrama Psychotherapists as well as social workers, occupational therapists, counsellors and psychotherapists and educationalists who wish to acquaint themselves with Psychodrama theory and action techniques and those seeking CPD hours towards BACP registration.

THIS CERTIFICATE OF SKILLS DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A QUALIFYING LICENCE TO PRACTISE AS A PSYCHODRAMA PSYCHOTHERAPIST.

Course Structure

The course delivery combines training and lectures. It will take place over ten weekends (Fri eve, Saturday & Sunday) - total 180 hours. Dates & Times are available on application.

Enrolment criteria

All applicants must fulfil the following criteria:

  1. Be at least 21 years of age
  2. Have had some relevant experience in working with people.
  3. Be in a position to meet the physical, emotional and intellectual demands of the course
  4. Provide at least one professional and one personal reference

Course Content

Trainees will gain an appreciation of the theory of psychodrama and the application of psychodrama techniques. By the end of the Certificate Course it is envisaged the trainee will have:

  • Attended training and experiential weekends (180 hours)
  • Practice in auxiliary, double, mirroring, role reversal and protagonist skills.
  • Directed Warm Ups.
  • Studied the Central Tenets of Moreno's Philosophy Theory & Practice.
  • Studied group process, sociometry and sociodrama.
  • Successfully completed course written assignments: A theoretical paper on Moreno Theory & Philosophy (2000 words); End of certificate essay. This will demonstrate an understanding of areas of study during the course and the application of Psychodrama techniques in the work place (3000-5000 words).

Course Requirements

The course consists of the following elements:

Skills Training

The training will consist of ten training weekends: - Friday evening, Saturday/Sunday. It will be of an experiential nature, focusing on the basic techniques of Psychodrama and Sociodrama.

Academic Study

Attendance at Lectures and participation in seminars on Psychodrama Theory & Practice plus required reading and summaries. The trainee will present two written papers one of 2000 words, which displays a grasp of psychodrama theory and philosophy. The second (3000-5000 words) at the end of the course will focus on areas of study and the application of Psychodrama techniques in the workplace.

Tutorials

Individual tutorials will review practice work, written work, progress in skills and personal development; set goals, discuss personal, practical, professional and academic issues arising from the course.

Registration & Log

Trainees will be required to register as members of the BPA. Trainees will keep a log of all activities relevant to their training. The log will keep a record of the hours and credits gained for each activity and each entry will be signed.

Assessment

Trainees are assessed continuously. This is done by self-assessment, peer group assessment and feedback. Progress through the course is at the discretion of the course director and conditional on fulfilment of all course requirements.

Practicalities

Award of the Certificate:

The Certificate in Psychodrama Action Methods is awarded to trainees who have:

  • Attended training study blocks.
  • Completed written components of the course.
  • Shown practical competence in Psychodrama skills.

Course Director: Jinnie Jefferies B.Ed. M.Sc. is an accredited practitioner and senior trainer of the BPA and the UKCP and the Founding Director of the London Centre for Psychodrama Group & Individual Psychotherapy (London & Greece.)

All course staff are UKCP or BACP Registered.
